“This discussion about the creation and development of alternative payment models will give attendees a deeper understanding of how such payments will impact addiction medicine in years to come,” says Dr. Howell. “Emerging payment models, such as bundled payments, must be developed alongside prescriber education programs to help primary care providers address opioid use and abuse nationwide.”
In 2015, opioids accounted for more than two-thirds of all drug overdose deaths in the U.S. — 15.6 percent more than the previous year — and drug overdose deaths nearly tripled between 1999 and 2014. Despite policy changes and education programs, opioid prescribing remains a high-priority concern for all stakeholders in pain management.
RDx has underwritten an educational grant to support a Mandatory Prescriber Education Course in New York state, and will replicate opportunities throughout the country.
